Announcement: What is PLR ?

When it comes to PLR, people tend to fall into one of three categories. Either they love it and know the potential that it has to grow their business, they see the potential but they aren’t really sure how to use it, or they have no idea what in the heck PLR is.

Today we are going to talk to people in that third category, those who have no idea what PLR is.

PLR stands for ‘Private Label Rights’. The easiest way to explain it would be to think of a house flipper. These people buy houses, fix them up, and then sell them for a profit. Private Label Rights works in the same way. People buy products with PLR rights, they fix them up and make them unique and then they are able to sell those products for a profit.

On the surface, it might sound sketchy, shouldn’t all of the content that you bring to your people be completely your own? Here’s the thing, PLR gives you a ‘baseline’ for your content. It is then up to you to make it your own, and you can do this in a variety of ways including:

  • Editing and rewriting it to match the message you are trying to send to your readers
  • Adding your personal stories, personal recommendations, and pictures
  • Using your PLR as a baseline to create podcast episodes, webinar content, and social media images.

Know Your Rights

You should know that there are PLR rights that you need to abide by. These are rights that are passed onto you by the PLR provider. Generally these rights are simple, usually stating that you cannot use the PLR providers name and you cannot pass the PLR rights onto someone else. Occasionally the rights may be a little more strict, but you can always reach out to the PLR provider before making your purchase if you have any questions. These rights are basically a way for the PLR providers to be sure that their content is treated respectfully.

So let’s use my PLR site as an example.  Over at WholeFoodPLR I don’t allow my PLR rights to be passed along and I don’t allow my content to be put onto any PLR membership sites. This is my way of making sure that I have some control over what happens to my products. Think about it, what would your opinion be of my $27 product if someone was selling the exact same thing for $5 all over the internet? Would you still think that it was something that you could easily make unique to you? Would you question the quality of the work? As a Private Label Rights provider, it is my job to protect my content from misuse and in doing so I am also protecting my customers.

PLR in the Real World

If this is the first time you have heard about PLR, you might feel like you are doing your customers a disservice by using pre-written content. To put this in a different light, here are some ‘real world’ examples of people who take a product and turn it into something else for profit.

  • House Flipper – transforms old homes into new homes
  • Chef – uses other recipes as inspiration to create new recipes
  • Singer – often hires someone to write the songs they sing
  • Secondhand Store – will fix up outdated items to look new before reselling

These folks cannot do their jobs without getting a ‘starting point’, and even though they may not point that out to their customers, their customers also don’t question it.

Content Repurposing Challenge – Day 5

Over the past few days we have taken a blog post, turned it into a checklist and then created a blog post based off of that checklist. Additionally we have added the checklist as a piece of downloadable content on your post.

So you have just repurposed your old blog post in two ways, (you turned it into a checklist and then turned the checklist into its own blog post). You can stop there or you can take it one step further and add a video to your new post as well.

Why A Video?

A video is another way to repurpose your content and it will allow you to reach your audience in a different way. For some people, watching a video is much more engaging than reading and this is a great way to reach out to them. And if you are hosting your video on a site like Youtube then you are allowing a new audience to see your message.

But it gets even better, because YouTube has a good amount of SEO power when you embed a video into your blog post you are giving your post an instant boost of SEO love.

How to Embed a Video

During this part of the challenge, I lost my voice. So I am going to do my best to explain the steps to you and once I have a voice again I will create the video to walk you through everything.

1 – Publish Your Blog Post (yes we will publish it and then go back into it)

2 – Go to YouTube

* Upload the MP4 version of your video to YouTube

* Add a Description (I use the first two sentences of my blog post)

* Add Tags (I use my Jaaxy Keyword tool to find relevant keywords:

* Add Tags as Hashtags at the end of YouTube Description

* Add Blog Post Link to the beginning of YouTube Description

* Publish

3 – Add Your Published Link to Your Blog

* On YouTube, look for the embed code. Copy this code

* Go to Edit Mode on your blog post and go into the text version

* Paste your embed code into the desired location within the text of your

4 – Once everything looks good, update your post.

Share Your Blog Post:

Now is the time when you want to add your repurposed post into an email sequence, share it on social media, and do anything else that you need to do to be sure that your audience sees this new content.

Watch Me Embed a Video into Our Blog Post:

You Did It!

You took an old blog post and you turned it into 3 brand new pieces of content! They are:

* Downloadable Checklist

* New Blog Post

* Video

Even though the concept of repurposing might seem a bit scary, the actual repurposing can be just as easy as what we did here. And there are many, many other ways that you could keep repurposing that same piece of content into even more formats. You just need to figure out how much time you want to spend repurposing and what format you want to do it in.

Next Steps:

  1. See the Checklist We Created During This Challenge:
  2. Find Your Tags/Hashtags Using Jaaxy:
  3. Create your video and embed it into your post
  4. Add a link to your repurposed post on the UsePLR Facebook Page

Content Repurposing Challenge – Day 4

Now that you have your checklist created it is time to add it onto your site. Remember, even though you have repuposed this from an old blog post it is still a new piece of content. This means that you can use it as a follow up to your original blog post, or as a separate post entirely. The choice is yours. Either way you will start by copying your checklist and pasting it into your blog post. Then you will format everything and add a link to your checklist at the bottom of the page.

Why Add a Downloadable Version of Your Checklist?

This allows your readers to have something that they can print and take with them. They can put it on their office wall or add it to their Daily Operations folder, it doesn’t really matter. What does matter is that your downloadable sheet is a new piece of content that you will always have available to help your readers. And even better, you will be able to help your readers while you are consistently promoting yourself and your message.

Things to Keep in Mind

When you copy your checklist and paste it into word you might notice that it looks a bit wonky. So you want to be sure that, you have a few minutes to ‘pretty it up’ before you publish. You will likely also need to upload your checklist image to your blog post.

**UPDATE – Even though we uploaded the Word Doc in this video, it is always best to save your checklist as a PDF before uploading it into your blog post.

Next Steps:

  1. Turn Your Checklist into a Blog Post
  2. Add a Checklist Download link to the bottom of the post
  3. Share what you have at the UsePLR Facebook Page

Content Repurposing Challenge – Day 3

Today is a really exciting day. We are going to take the blog points that we selected and turn them into a checklist. On the surface, it might seem like this is hard, but it is really super easy. And to make it a bit easier we have created a template of the checklist so that you have something to use if you ever decide to repurpose your blog posts into your own checklist.

What Where Do We Begin?

We start by pulling up the Word version of the blog post. Then we will go through each highlighted bullet and add it to the checklist. See if there is anything you want to add to this or any new information that you feel is relevant.

For instance if some time has passed since your initial blog post then you could have new tools or tips that you want to share with your readers.

Choose Your Checklist Main Image

To spruce up our checklists a bit, we usually add an image to the front page. This makes the list itself look longer and it also makes the checklist look a bit more presentable.

If you need help finding an image, our PLR to Social Media Images Report should give you direction.

Pretty Everything Up:

Once you have everything created it is time to pretty things up. This means:

  • Making sure the image is centered
  • Making sure the bullet points and formatting is the way you want it
  • Adding a footer to the checklist with your website on it

Content Repurposing Challenge – Day 2

Now that you have picked your blog post, it is time to start repurposing that post. Repurposing is an easy way to breathe new life into something older. And the best part is that your readers will firmly believe that you have created a brand new post.

In fact, when you repurpose something correctly it will be so unique that even you, the content creator, will likely look at it as a brand new piece of content. It doesn’t seem possible, believe me I understand I was you once, but  it is true.

What are the Benefits of Repurposing Posts?

To put it simply, your blog is your place to showcase who you are, it is a way for people to start trusting you without feeling obligated to buy something from you and it is a place where you have complete control over the message that you are sending out.

Your blog is important, and this is why you want to use every drop of goodness out of it that you possibly can.

When You Repurpose Your Post You Can Look Forward to:

  • Keeping your favorite blog posts alive by reposting your updated content
  • Reaching an expanded audience by changing the format of your post
  • Making an old post look fresh by improving the look of it
  • Having super happy readers who think you just created a brand new piece of content for them
  • Having another piece of content that you can put out there to work for you consistently

Pick the Way You Want to Repurpose Your Post:

For the purpose of the challenge, we are going to turn one of our UsePLR posts into a bulleted list and add how to video to it. Not only is a list easy to make,, but the video is something that can reach an audience on Youtube as well.

So my question to you is how do you want to repurpose your post? While it might be easiest to follow along with what we are doing, if you are feeling a bit adventurous you could:

  • Change it to a FAQ (frequently asked questions) post about the same topic
  • Take tips from the post and turn them into a blog post series, and then turn that series into a free report for your readers
  • Turn tips from your post into social media images
  • Rework a list of ‘do’s’ into a list of ‘don’ts’
  • Turn it into a ‘how-to’

Watch Me Pick a Post and Highlight the items I will use for my list:

Next Steps:

  1. See the Post We Picked:
  2. Watch Our Walkthrough Above
  3. Go Through Your Own Post and Highlight the things You Will Be Using

Feel free to share what you are working on at the UsePLR Facebook page.
